Jose Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda or popularly known as Jose Rizal. He was born on June 19,1861 in Calamba Laguna. His father was Francisco Mercado and considered the patriarch of the family, was a native of Binan , Laguna. He was an educated and industrious farmer who studied Latin and philosophy at the Colegio de San Jose in Manila . His mother was Teodora Alonzo, a highly educated Filipina who graduated from the Colegio de Santa Rosa . Rizal became more involved to his mother than to his father . Metro has a brother named as Paciano Rizal. Paciano was the elder and only brother of Jose Rizal. Being a decade older than Rizal, Paciano became a second father to his siblings. He also became Rizal's mentor. Rizal also has nine sisters. Saturnina Rizal, the eldest one who became his second mother. Narcisa Rizal, w as the third child of Francisco and Teodora. She was a teacher and a musician by profession . Olimpia Rizal, as the fourth child of the brood . Lucia Rizal, was the fifth child of the Rizal family . Maria Rizal, was the sixth child. Conception Rizal, also known as "Concha" was the eighth child. Jose Rizal , was the ninth child and affectionately called Panggoy. She remained a spinster throughout her life. Trinidad Rizal was the tenth child who, like Maria, died without a husband. And Soledad Rizal was the youngest of them.
